FAQ

What is Homeopathy?

A medical art for treating or curing disease based on the administration of minute doses of a substance that in large amounts produces symptoms in healthy individuals similar to those of the disease itself. It is based on the natural Law of Similars – Like Cures Like.

What are the five principles of Homeopathy?

  • The Law of Similars
  • Single remedy for multiple complaints
  • Individualisation
  • Long-term results
  • Order of Healing
  • The minimum dose

What are the basic postulates about disease and healing?

  1. The physician’s only mission is to cure the sick; it is not to speculate on the nature of disease.
  2. The ideal cure is rapid, gentle, permanent and removes the whole disease in the shortest, least harmful way, according to easily comprehensible principles.
  3. If the physician understands what is curable in disease, and understands what is curative in medicines, and understands how to apply the medicines (according to well defined principles) to the disease, and knows how to remove conditions which prevent the patient from getting well, he is a true physician.
  4. The need to recognise and remove the maintaining causes.
  5. Pay attention to the exciting cause and the fundamental cause (which is usually a chronic disease) including the patient’s character, activities, way of life, habits, etc.
  6. There is no need for metaphysical speculation. Diseases are the totality of the perceptible symptoms.
  7. To cure, you only need to treat the totality [not symptomatic palliation; a single symptom is not a disease]
  8. If the symptoms are removed, the disease is eradicated.
  9. The physician wants to make people healthy so they can use their body to get on with the higher purposes of their existence.

What are homeopathic remedies?

Homeopathic remedies are made from plants, minerals, insects, acids, discharges and more. There is a branch of homeopathy called Isopathy where custom remedies can be made from your acne or boil when the conventional treatment fails. This process is more expensive but works really well.

There are many potencies in Homeopathy. You can easily buy 30CH or 200CH in your local health food store, however there are many other potencies available at homeopathic pharmacies. They start from a Mother Tincture to 6X, 12X, 6CH, LM, 1M, 10M and higher.

Homeopathic remedies can be also made into a spay, an eye drop, or an ointment.

What foods should be avoided when taking Homeopathy?

This only applies to people who are very sensitive. It is recommended to refrain from using strong substances and odours, like coffee, strong mint, camphor, eucalyptus. However, for best results it is good to refrain from smoking, drinking and cleaning your diet so the body has a better chance to heal.

What are the obstacles to cure?

In Homeopathy, we take into consideration the obstacles to cure. For example, if someone steps on a sharp nail which gets stuck in the foot and goes to the doctor, in all cases the doctor will remove the nail, clean the wound and cover it with a bandage. However, this symbolic nail could represent many things in our lives, like the job we don’t like, bad relationship, abusive partner, dirty environment (mold, fungus, etc), fumes (in some workplaces), highly processed food, etc. In these cases many people are not willing to remove these obstacles. This makes the entire healing process more complicated. Imagine if you told the doctor, „Nope I don’t want to remove the nail, do everything you can to stop the pain but keep the nail in my foot.”

Who benefits the most from Homeopathy?

Everyone! However, it is observed that children and animals respond best. There is that element of not trusting or not believing in Homeopathy which contributes to the outcome. Animals and children don’t reason and respond best.

Are remedies safe?

Absolutely! They are safe for everyone including pregnant women and newborn babies. What is amazing about homeopathics that they can be taken along medications. However, in some cases medications are the obstacle to cure.

Homeopathic remedies range from tiny pellets to liquid form. There is no hazard for babies choking on them. They dissolve fast and have no aftertaste.

How long does the treatment last?

It depends on the problem. For teething babies or skin rashes it can be 1 or 2 appointments, for people who have severe health conditions (dialysis, cancer, etc), or take a lot of medications it may take much longer.

Who can practice Homeopathy?

Homeopaths, naturopathic doctors and medical doctors.

Is Homeopathy regulated in Canada?

Homeopathy was regulated in 2015, however Ontario is the only province that currently regulates Homeopaths.

The College of Homeopaths of Ontario is the regulatory body for Homeopathy practice in Ontatio.

Why is Homeopathy not covered by OHIP?

In Canada, only medical doctors are covered by OHIP. For anything outside of conventional medicine, one must seek privately. Many workplaces have coverage for Homeopathy, just check with your HR.

What is the difference between homeopathy and naturopathy?

The main difference is that naturopaths study various healing modalities, including homeopathy. They can be considered „jack of all trades” in the wellness field. Some of the healing methods they are versed in include nutrition, supplementation, hydrotherapy, botanical medicine, pharmaceuticals, acupuncture, laboratory testing, stress reduction techniques and more.

Homeopaths study only homeopathic medicine along side nutrition. This gives them an in depth understanding of the various remedies and their uses.

Both are required to complete a curriculum that is three to four years in length. Although a naturopath does have some basic understanding of homeopathy, they are only trained for a fraction of the time a homeopath is in this particular area of expertise.

What is the average salary of a naturopath and a homeopath?

This varies on whether the practitioner is working full time or part time hours. An initial session with either a homeopath or a naturopath can range anywhere from $150-$350, depending on the length of the appointment and the practitioner’s experience. Follow up appointments are generally shorter in length and range in price from $80-$150. Hence, is either practitioner works full time hours, they can earn anywhere from $75,000 – $200,000 annually.

Why are some homeopathic practitioners more expensive than others?

Every case is entirely unique and a well-trained homeopath looks for patterns, causes, and takes the full history of each patient into account. Once a practitioner has been able to successfully help their clients obtain results time and again, they become exceptional at their art. A homeopath who has been able to improve hundreds of clients’ symptoms knows intuitively which remedies to prescribe and at what doses, as well as how to recognize and treat nutritional deficiencies. Other factors to consider when looking at homeopathic fees are the location and accessibility of the practitioner.
